Frederick B. Hegi, Jr.
Fred Hegi is a founding Partner of Wingate. He is Chairman of the Board of United Stationers and currently
serves on the boards of Texas Capital Bancshares, Drew Industries, Austin Industries, and Hallmark Cards,
Inc. He is the former Chairman of Loomis, Fargo & Co. and Kevco.
Prior to forming Wingate, Mr. Hegi was President of Valley View Capital Corporation, which was responsible for the acquisition, financing, and management of various operating companies. These operations included Swift Independent Corporation and Friona Industries, which had combined annual revenues of approximately $4.5 billion. Before establishing Valley View Capital Corporation in 1982, Mr. Hegi was Vice President and Treasurer of Cooper Industries.
He is an advisory director and former Chairman of the InterFaith Housing Coalition and former Chairman of the Advisory Council of the University of Texas School of Business and its Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Sourthern Methodist University and the Executive Committee of the Chancellors Council of the University of Texas System as well as Chairman of Communities Foundation of Texas, and a trustee of the Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, UT Southwestern Medical Foundation and UT Southwestern Board of Visitors.
Mr. Hegi holds an undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University, an MBA from the Harvard Business School, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas.
Benson P. Shapiro
Benson P. Shapiro is the Malcolm P. McNair Professor of Marketing Emeritus at the Harvard Business School where he taught full-time from 1970 to 1997. He continues to teach
at Harvard, and in the recent past has taught in several executive programs including the CEO Program, Young Presidents' Program, and Business Marketing Strategy, and has chaired the Sustainable
Marketing Leadership for Mid-Sized Business Program. He is a Director of United Stationers and WaveMark, Inc., and was previously a Director of ENSR International, a Wingate II portfolio company.
Professor Shapiro has served as a consultant to well over 300 companies including startups, medium-size firms, and large international corporations. He has participated in over 160 executive education programs outside of Harvard. He also held many administrative positions at Harvard including Senior Associate Dean for Publications, Research Director, Head of the Required MBA Marketing Course, and Faculty Chair for Strategic Marketing Management, a two-week program for senior marketing executives. Professor Shapiro is the author, co-author or editor of 14 books, and 19 Harvard Business Review articles.
Professor Shapiro holds a BSE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan as well as an MBA with distinction and a DBA, both from Harvard. He received an Honorary Doctorate from Athens University of Economics and Business in 2004.
Terdema L. Ussery, II
Terdema L. Ussery, II has been President and CEO of the Dallas Mavericks for 14 years. As one of the original partners of HDNet, the nation's first high-definition television network,
he served as its CEO for ten years. He also serves as an alternate governor for the Mavericks on the NBA Board of Governors.
Mr. Ussery previously served as President of Nike Sports Management. While at Nike, Mr. Ussery was included on The Sporting News' annual list of the 100 most powerful people in sports. Prior to that, he was Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) before being named Commissioner in 1991.
Mr. Ussery practiced business and entertainment law in the Los Angeles office of the San Francisco-based firm of Morrison & Foerster, LLP, before joining the CBA.
He is on the boards of The Timberland Company and TreeHouse Foods, Inc. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Dallas Housing Authority, and is also on the board of the Communities Foundation of Texas, as well as the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation Board. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Mr. Ussery earned a bachelor's degree at Princeton, a master's degree from Harvard, and a law degree from University of California – Berkeley, where he served as executive editor of the California Law Review.
